Subject: Floating drydock in Manus Harbor
It is truely unfortunate that the video quality is so awful on these two reels, and a dozen or so others, all shot in color in Manus Harbor in the Admiralities during late 1943. It appears that much of the degradation was not on the original film, but a truely abysmal film to video transfer done by NARA, using a badly damaged copy stand with a damaged rear projection screen, light leaks, and an uncompensated florescent light rather than the incandescent it seems to have been designed to use.

These two reels seem to be "B roll" footage for a feature or training film that was planned. They cover the day to day activities on a small floating drydock in the harbor. Possibly this is one of the concrete drydocks, a member of the "crockery fleet", as it was known at the time. Unfortunately the video quality is too poor to allow reading the names of any of the vessels shown.

If the original film still survives and could be remastered, there is a huge amount of first-hand documentation on the war in the pacific.
